Hall of Fame – Framework. 

The VYUFDA Hall of Fame will recognise and preserve the Competitors and their Dogs who have made a significant contribution to the VYUFDA through their trialling success.

Process

  • Each year a committee will be appointed by the Executive that would identify and nominate candidates to potentially be included into the Hall of Fame.
  • The nominees identified for the Hall of Fame would be discussed and agreed on at a VYUFDA Committee meeting and if approved the inductee would be presented at the next AGM.
  • The Hall of Fame Committee would consider candidates on the basis of their recorded achievements. 
  • To begin the process the committee would consider those records from 1990 – 2014. Each year potential inclusions would be identified and put forward to the Committee.
  • To be considered the requirement would be for a Competitor/Dog to have won at least three (3) from the following categories;
    • Australian Yard Dog Championship,
    • National Kelpie Field Trial,
    • Victorian Yard Dog Championship,
    • Victorian Utility Championship,
    • VYUFDA High Point Award.
  • The VYUFDA Hall of Fame would only be available to Victorian members/ residents.

Graham Halsall

Graham was one of the inaugural members of the VYDA as it was known in 1990 and was instrumental in the development of the sport in Victoria. Graham already had some experience in three sheep trialling at that stage so he adapted to the new style very quickly.

Graham was a fierce competitor and tireless worker who set the example for yard building, he pushed the limits to achieve great success in the sport in both Yard and Utility trials.  Granan Mac was Graham most successful dog over the years.

Sally Stanley

Sally was an inaugural member of the VYDA in 1990 and had a great team of dogs. Sally was a gentle competitor who was more concerned about how her dogs worked than actually winning. Sally had a special relationship with her dogs and they tried their hearts out for her. Cottonwood Kip was Sallys favourite due to his versatility inside and outside the yards. Sally set a very high standard of behaviour around the trials, always pleasant and helpful, winning many trials along the way.

Craig Trickey

Craig joined the Association and started competing in 1991/92, he trialled some handy dogs in his early years and had bought Skyblue Nugget off Peter Meade as a puppy. Once Craig had him trained and competing he was an exceptional trial dog and Craig was almost unbeatable for those years of 1997, 98 & 99. As a side note there were a number of champions in that Skyblue (Meg x Greg Fawkes dog? that Peter Meade bred, Sam, Skye, Mack, Sue worked by Graham Halsall, Cass worked by Wayne Hayward) Craig also served as President of the Association in 2001 – 2003

Gary Sharrock

Gary joined the VYUFDA in 1998/99 and quickly became a serious competitor bringing his experience and understanding of stock movement. Garys precise training showed through his work on the trial course which was a feature while competing.  GoGetta Will was Gary best dog through that era winning very consistently, then Able Alby a few years later.

Ian O’Connell

Ian joined the VYUFDA in 1999/2000, quickly establishing himself as a serious competitor with a very good knowledge of training and working dogs and stock. Ian has been a great promoter of working dogs being one of the early organisers of the Casterton Dog Auction in 1997 which has since morphed into the Casterton Kelpie Muster as we know it today.  Also Ian is a widely respected educator in stock handling and dog training. Ian Served as President in 2010 – 2012 and gaining Life Membership of the VYUFDA in 2019.

Joe Spicer

Joe joined the Association and began competing in 1994/95, from the beginning it was obvious Joe was going to be a serious competitor who has dedicated his life to his dogs, breeding, competing and making a living from what he loves. Joe has been an exceptional competitor that has set a very high standard for others to follow. His record of success is second to none over a long period, with a number of different dogs that he has bred. Joe served as President in 2012 – 2014
